The below information provides a description of activities which a Western Australia (WA) licensed motor vehicle repair business is permitted to perform. If you are a WA licensee visiting another state under AMR, you are only allowed to perform the activities listed below.

Scope of work
Owner of a motor vehicle repair business, a self-employed motor vehicle repairer or a mobile repair business.
Licensees must be able to perform activities from the classes of work, and therefore be a certified repairer themselves, or have a certified repairer who can, to carry out the class of repair work.

Specific activities
Repair work is defined as:
- examining motor vehicles;
- diagnosing and detecting faults in motor vehicles;
- adjusting, servicing and maintaining motor vehicles;
- overhauling motor vehicles;
- replacing components of motor vehicles;
- modifying and altering motor vehicles; and
- painting or treating the surfaces of motor vehicles.
Does not include:
- vehicle washing and cleaning services;
- fabricating, repairing, replacing or otherwise working on a seat or any interior lining or floor covering in a motor vehicle;
- repairing and installing refrigeration units in trailers;
- repairing and installing fridges, stoves, sinks, toilets and other furnishings in vehicle;
- repairing and installing equipment such as cranes, concrete mixers, welders and other industrial equipment fixed to vehicles;
- repairing or otherwise working on an accessory that does not affect the performance, safety or security of the motor vehicle;
- removal or dismantling only parts by wreckers; and
- window tinting.
WA requirements
To get a WA licence
- Must have a prescribed qualification or equivalent knowledge
- Must have an Australian police check
- Must operate out of a registered premises
- Must be of person of good character and repute and a fit and proper person to hold a licence
- Must have sufficient material, human resources and financial resources
- Must pay an application fee
To keep a WA licence
- They must renew their licence every three years
They must comply with the Motor Vehicle Repairers Act 2003, Motor Vehicle Repairers Regulations 2007; Fair Trading Act 2010 (Australian Consumer Law); and Retail Trading Hours Act 1987.
